This restored Craftsman home had an overgrown landscape that was in need of an update that fit with the style of the home. A bluestone patio with granite edging was created to give the yard some usable patio space. A small patch of Ecoturf lawn was installed for the owner’s dog. By transplanting and pruning many of the existing plants – and supplementing with a few new ones – a mature looking landscape was created immediately. Uneven, broken concrete entry steps and a rickety railing were removed and replaced with granite steps to create safer access to the home.Thermal-finished granite risers were retrofitted into existing rock walls.
The steps provide less steep, more comfortable access to the home. A narrow “bridge” leads to a patch of Ecoturf lawn – a pleasing green space and an easy-access doggie area. Ecoturf requires less water and mowing than regular grass. An old deck was replaced with a variegated bluestone patio edged in granite cobble. At ground level, the patio affords its users more privacy and less maintenance than the old deck. The sand-set pathway connects the new entry stairs to the home’s main entry and to the backyard patio area.
