Sunset Hill Residence

Sunset Hill Residence

This new construction home began with a landscape that was a blank slate and the Owners’ desire to create a Japanese style garden for their modern home. Several disjointed spaces were linked together to include a miniature Japanese garden, a quiet seating area and an Ipe deck in the larger backyard. A storage shed was included to make room for overflow from the garage.
Mature plants were hand-selected, including one bonsai-ed pine that is over 65 years old. The plantings settle the home into the landscape and create a sequence of spaces in which to enjoy time outside. A driveway gate was designed along to add to security while a package delivery box was incorporated to keep boxes dry and out of sight. Low voltage lighting creates ambiance and brings the landscape inside in the evenings.
