On this sloped, wooded lot, we focused on creating usable tiers, tied together with similar materials and textures. The lower level is a covered outdoor space focused around a two-sided gas fireplace that is clad in bluestone. A barbeque island sited just outside the kitchen doors, adds functionality to the lower level.
A beautiful, recirculating water feature with a carved basalt column serves as the second focal point and adds sound and movement to the spaces. Both of these elements can be enjoyed from the upper tier as well.
On the upper tier, we incorporated the existing, well-loved bocce court by creating a generous stairway to the upper level and adding low voltage lighting for wayfinding and string lights for ambiance. The space in between contains potted Japanese Maples with uplighting and will eventually be planted to complete the spaces.
